Monk Bretton murder: Two more arrests after man stabbed to death in Yorkshire village street

Police have arrested two more people in connection with the death of a man in a Yorkshire village at the weekend - bringing the total to seven.

South Yorkshire Police said a 50-year-old woman has been arrested on suspicion of affray, while a 36-year-old woman has also been arrested on suspicion of affray and perverting the course of justice. They both remain in police custody.

They are the sixth and seventh people to be arrested in connection with the death of 41-year-old Alan Sutton, who was stabbed to death on Burton Road in Monk Bretton, near Barnsley, on Sunday (Sep 1).

South Yorkshire Police were called to the scene shortly before 4.30pm and found Mr Sutton with suspected stab wounds and he died at the scene.

Callum Strachan, 21, of Burton Road, has been charged with murder and appeared at Barnsley Magistrates’ Court on Thursday (Sep 5) and has been remanded in custody until his next appearance on Monday (Sep 9).

A 19-year-old woman and a 32-year-old man have been arrested on suspicion of murder.

A 40-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of affray, criminal damage, possession of an offensive weapon and assault, with a 41-year-old man arrested on suspicion of affray and assault.

They have all been released on police bail pending further enquiries.
