Monk Bretton: Man charged with murder after death of 41-year-old in altercation

A Barnsley man has been charged with murder, police said.

 On Sunday September 1 at 4.23pm, South Yorkshire Police received a call informing officers of an altercation between a group of men on Burton Road in Monk Bretton.

 Upon emergency services’ arrival, a 41-year-old man now known as Alan Sutton, was found with suspected stab wounds to his chest.

 Despite the best efforts of medical personnel, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

 Callum Strachan, 21, of Burton Road, Barnsley, was arrested and has since been charged with murder.

He remains in police custody and will appear at Barnsley Magistrates’ Court on September 5.
