An investigation was launched in June after the release of an email sent by South Yorkshire chief constable David Crompton four days before the Hillsborough Independent Panel’s report was published in September last year.
In the email, sent to head of media Mark Thompson, Mr Crompton said: “The Hillsborough Campaign for Justice will be doing their version... in fact their version of certain events has become ‘the truth even though it isn’t’.”
South Yorkshire Police and Crime Commissioner Shaun Wright yesterday announced he had received further complaints from a firm of solicitors in Liverpool about the same message.
He said he had referred them to Chief Constable Simon Parr of Cambridgeshire Constabulary, who is already looking into the email, and the Independent Police Complaints Commission.
The IPCC concluded in February that the email had “serious implications for public confidence” but referred the matter back to Mr Wright.
