Murder investigation after man hit by car dies in hospital

A MURDER investigation has been launched after a man died two days  after he was struck by a car following what police say was as an "altercation" in Barnsley.

Police said 37-year-old Richard Broughton suffered life-threatening injuries during the incident in Welland Crescent, Elsecar, Barnsley, just before 7pm on Friday April 28.

South Yorkshire Police said today (Sun April 30): "Police can confirm that a 37-year-old man who suffered life-threatening injuries following an altercation in Elsecar, Barnsley, has died in hospital today.

"The 37-year-old man, named as Richard Broughton, suffered fatal injuries after an altercation where it is reported he was struck by a car in Welland Crescent, Elsecar.

"His family are receiving support from officers and ask that their privacy be respected during this difficult time.

"A post mortem examination will be carried out in due course and officers are now treating this as a murder investigation.

"Police remain keen to hear from anyone who may have witnessed the incident, which took place just before 7pm on Friday 28 April, or anyone who may hold information about those that may have been involved.
