Police chief dismisses traffic officer over drink-drive offence

Pc Adam Walker, 33, who at the time was a serving traffic officer, committed the offence on December 27 while driving into work in Sheffield.

South Yorkshire Police have previously revealed that Walker’s breath test reading was 56 microgrammes per 100 millilitres of breath, compared with a legal limit of 35.

Walker pleaded guilty at Sheffield Magistrates’ Court on February 6 and was ordered to pay a £475 fine, £85 costs and a £47 victim surcharge.

He was also disqualified from driving for 12 months, with the option to reduce the ban to nine months if he participates in a drink-drive rehabilitation programme.

Walker had been suspended since the date of the offence and was dismissed from his role on Friday at a special case misconduct hearing, chaired by Chief Constable David Crompton. The force revealed the move yesterday.

In a statement on its website, the force said Walker was off duty at the time of the offence. He had been working on restricted, office-based duties due to a previous medical matter and would not have driven a police vehicle while performing his restricted role.

In January, former South Yorkshire police officer Sarah Greaves was given a suspended 12-month sentence after admitting offering to supply cocaine.
