Police make three arrests under Terrorism Act

Three men have been arrested in Sheffield today following a Kurdish demonstration outside Sheffield Town Hall.

Around 60 people gathered for the silent demonstration.

South Yorkshire police said the three, two 36-year-olds and one 37, had been arrested under Section 13 of the Terrorism Act and were in police custody.

The force said the demonstration had passed “peacefully without significant disruption.”

Meanwhile around 200 officers policed a demonstration by Britain First in Rotherham.

They said 120 people marched through the town centre for a rally at All Saint’s Square.

The demonstration was the group’s second visit to the town within a month following Professor Alexis Jay’s report into child sexual exploitation, which revealed 1,400 children had been abused by mainly Pakistani men over 16 years.

There were two arrests; a 55-year-old was held on suspicion of breaching a Section 27 dispersal notice. A 23-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of a public order offence.
