Police quiz man after double death

A man has been arrested after a mother and her nine-month-old son were found dead at their home.

The bodies of the 25-year-old woman and her baby – who have not been named by police – were discovered at a house on Chells Grove in Billesley, south Birmingham, at around 10.30am yesterday.

Detectives arrested a 28-year-old man, known to both victims, in Dudley at around 5.15pm.

Officers said there had previously been contact between police and the suspect.

A West Midlands Police spokesman said a serious case review and a domestic homicide review are likely to be carried out, while officers said they voluntarily informed police watchdog the IPCC “due to previous contact between police and the person in custody”.

A post-mortem examination will take place to establish exactly how the victims died, West Midlands Police said. They are not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident.

Superintendent Andy Shipman said: “Today’s awful murders will of course send shock waves through the community. My thoughts are with the family of those involved.

“Local officers will be highly visible in the area throughout tonight and into the coming week, speaking to residents and reassuring local people. I want to reassure the community that a man has been arrested and we believe there is no ongoing threat to the public.”
