Police release description of young woman who fell into the River Ouse in York as her identity is unascertained

A young woman who fell from Lendal Bridge into the River Ouse on Friday was dressed in black and carrying a sheaf of A4 papers, police have revealed.

The woman, aged in her early 20s, is thought to be from the York area but police have not yet been able to ascertain her identity.

Searches of the Ouse are continuing today but she has not yet been found.

An appeal has also gone out for dashcam footage of the woman's movements before she entered the water at around midday.

Officers are particularly keen to study footage which captures her face in the moments before she fell between 11.50am and 12.05pm.

The woman is described as white, aged in her early 20s, with purple or red hair.

She was wearing a black coat with a buckle across the middle, black skinny jeans, and black boots with red or purple socks pulled over the top of the ankles.

She was also carrying white A4-sized papers.

Witnesses or anyone with information are asked to call North Yorkshire Police on 101, select option 1, and speak to the Force Control Room, quoting reference number 12200190737.
