Prison officers injured after trouble flares at HMP Leeds

Two officers were taken to hospital after trouble broke out at Leeds Prison.

The staff members were injured in a disturbance at the Armley jail yesterday.

The Ministry of Justice has launched an investigation into the incident – saying violence will not be tolerated.

Both prison officers were treated in hospital but were not kept in overnight.

A Prison Service spokesman said: “An incident at HMP Leeds involving a small number of prisoners on one prison wing was successfully resolved.

“An investigation will take place. Violence in prison will not be tolerated.”

The spokesman said the incident was over within half an hour.

A number of inmates are also understood to have been hurt.
