£1.5 million worth of 'Mickey Mouse' ecstasy tabs found after Leeds and Batley drug dealers arrested

Police caught two drug dealers with Mickey Mouse shaped ecstasy tablets with a street value of more than £50,000 and later found a stash of the same drugs worth an estimated £1.5 million.

A Leeds Crown Court judge jailed drug dealers Derrick Woods, of Batley, and Jack Stretton, of Manor Farm Drive, Churwell, Leeds, for a total of 20 years.

Police found a bag containing around 5,300 ecstasy tablets in the Peugeot 207 car that Woods, 40, and 20-year-old Stretton were arrested in on the retail park at Birstall near Batley, Leeds Crown Court heard.

Police searched Woods' flat in Blakeridge Mills, Blakeridge Lane, Batley, and found £94,000 in cash in a carrier bag following his arrest at around 7pm on March 7 2019.

Woods had the key to a Peugeot 307, which was parked outside the flat.

Dave Mackay, prosecuting, said police searched that car and found 30,000 Mickey Mouse shaped ecstasy tablets worth up to £1.5 million if sold as single tablets.

Police found 32 large blocks of amphetamine with an estimated street value of more than £600,000 in the car's boot.

Mr Mackay said the scale of Stretton's dealing was demonstrated by various texts recovered from his phone.

In one text, Stretton wrote: "Best I can do is 250g for 2 grand."

Further investigations found he had made a number of similar transfers to addresses in China totalling $38,000 dollars, or just under £30,000.

Mr Mackay said: "Given Stretton's lack of employment or legitimate income, these payments must have been either laundering the profits of drug dealing or purchasing drugs over the internet."

The court heard Woods had a Volvo XC90 car worth more than £50,000 and a £40,000 Mercedes GLE.

Woods admitted one charge of possessing amphetamine with intent to supply, two charges of possessing ecstasy with intent to supply and possessing criminal property - the cash.

Stretton admitted two charges of conspiracy to supply Class A drugs, possessing ecstasy with intent to supply and transferring criminal property.

Woods was jailed for five years in 2008 for Class A drugs offences and for ten years in 2010 for conspiracy to supply drugs.

Christopher Knox, mitigating for Woods, said his client was not "at the top of the tree" in the drug dealing operation.

Charles Blatchford, for Stretton said his client has been assessed as having the mental age of a 12-year-old and is easily led.

Mr Blatchford said Stretton was only involved for eight-days, adding: "He lives at home with his mother. There's no flashy lifestyle, no designer clothes."

Judge Andrew Stubbs jailed Woods for 14 years and handed Stretton a six-year prison sentence.
