Revealed: the hundreds of Yorkshire police officers that have been struck off
The total of 757 is the highest number in a single year since the barred list was introduced at the end of 2017, the College of Policing said.
Hundreds of police officers across Yorkshire have been barred from service over the last six years, new figures have revealed.
Overall, 265 officers from the West, South and North Yorkshire forces, as well as Humberside Police, were banned after they were sacked for breaching professional standards between 2020 and 2026.
West Yorkshire Police had the highest number with 114 officers barred over the time period.
This included 29 in the last year and 31 in the 2024-25 financial year.
Among those added to the barred list was PC Joshua McKeown-Holbrook, who worked for WYP in Leeds.
He was banned after 16 allegations of sexual harassment against three female colleagues was proved.
Humberside had 63 officers banned over the six-year period, with South Yorkshire having 56.
North Yorkshire had the fewest that were barred at 32.
This comes as a record number of officers across England and Wales were barred in the last year.
The total of 757 is the highest number in a single year since the barred list was introduced at the end of 2017, the College of Policing said.
Officers, specials and staff sacked after breaching professional standards are banned from returning to policing and added to the list.
Assistant Chief Constable Arman Mathieson, director of operational standards at the College of Policing, said: “Policing is built on trust and these figures show we will not hesitate to act when that trust is broken.
“757 officers have been removed and barred from ever serving again, including those who retired or resigned while under investigation.
“This represents 0.5 per cent of all serving officers, with the vast majority of officers serving with courage, professionalism and integrity.
“We all deserve a service that roots out those who fall short. Where standards are breached, we will find out and we will act.
“Since the barred list was introduced in December 2017, 3,591 regular officers have been added in total, with the pace of dismissals accelerating markedly: 757 officers were barred last year alone, more than in any single year since the list began and over twice the annual average of the preceding four years.”
The Yorkshire police forces were contacted for comment. Det Supt James Axe, head of professional standards at SYP, said: “The overwhelming majority of officers and staff here at South Yorkshire Police are steadfastly committed to helping and supporting the public and their colleagues, doing the right things for the right reasons and reflecting our force values of fairness, integrity and trust.
"Where individuals fail to uphold the standards expected of them, it is right that action is taken. The latest figures show that five officers were added to the barred list last year, compared with 20 the previous year.
"While the number has reduced, our position remains unchanged - there is no place in SYP for those whose conduct falls seriously short of the high standards the public rightly expect and deserve.”
