Rotherham Pc ‘had nearly 1,500 child abuse images’

A South Yorkshire Police officer accused of possessing nearly 1,500 indecent images or videos of a child is to appear at Sheffield Crown Court later this month.

PC Lee Lucas, of Prince of Wales Road, Sheffield, entered no plea when he appeared in front of magistrates this morning. The 39-year-old was granted unconditional bail ahead of his crown court date on April 23.

Lucas, who was based in Rotherham, has been suspended from his duties pending the outcome of his court proceedings.

He wore a rain jacket over a white, striped shirt and dark tie as he stood in court. He spoke to give his name, date of birth and address.

Lucas is charged with 16 counts of making indecent photographs of a child between January 13, 2008 and December 17, 2013.
