Second murder investigation in 24 hours launched in Sheffield after 20-year-old man is killed in shooting

Detectives have launched a murder investigation following the shooting of a young man in Sheffield.

Emergency services were called in the early hours of this morning (Monday) after the 20-year-old was shot inside a property on Grimesthorpe Road South.

An ambulance arrived at the scene to find the victim had already been taken to the Northern General Hospital, where he died a short while later.

South Yorkshire Police were alerted by the Yorkshire Ambulance Service and have now launched a murder enquiry into the attack which it believes was targeted.

Senior investigating officer, DCI Mark Oughton said: “Cordons remain in place in the area today while officers conduct their enquiries, including thorough scene searches and an intensive trawl of CCTV footage.

“Extra officers will be patrolling the area today to provide further reassurance and anyone with concerns should speak to one of our officers.

“As our investigation progresses, I’d encourage anyone with information that could help the enquiry to get in touch with police or you can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously.”

The investigation comes just 24 hours after another murder probe was launched over a 28-year-old man who was found in the street in a different part of the city.

Emergency services were called at around 2.15am to Club Garden Road in Highfield yesterday, with the man taken to hospital with serious injuries. He died a short while later.

A 30-year-old man was arrested and questioned in connection with the incident.
