The driver was left shaken but unhurt after the incident aboard the number 35 bus as it approached Deerlands Avenue, at the junction of Chaucer Road in Parson Cross, Sheffield.

Police say the youth, who got on the bus in Hillsborough, is reported to have had a dispute with the driver, before headbutting the protective barrier surrounding the driver’s cab.

He then pulled the door of the cab off its hinges, causing around £800 of damage, and grabbed the bus driver by the arm before trying to pull him out of the cab.

The suspect then made off on foot, towards Chaucer Road. The 48-year-old bus driver, from Sheffield, was left shaken but otherwise unhurt.

Police have now released a CCTV image of a youth on the bus they wish to speak to in connection with the incident at 3pm on April 11. Details of the incident were only released today.

He is described as a young white male, with short dark hair, and was wearing a white T-shirt with a dark zipped-up hooded top.

The youth himself, or anyone who knows him, should call South Yorkshire Police on 101, quoting incident number 832 of 11 April 2014, or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
