Today marks 15 years since murder of West Yorkshire Police officer Pc Sharon Beshenivsky who was killed on duty in Bradford

Police officer Sharon Beshenivsky was murdered 15 years ago today.

The 38-year-old officer was killed on November 18, 2005, when she was shot while attending a robbery in Bradford city centre.

She was just nine months into her policing career at the time of the murder, while her colleague Pc Theresa Millburn was also attacked and suffered serious injuries.

Pc Beshenivsky had three children and two step-children, with the murder coinciding with her daughter's fourth birthday.

Six men were convicted and jailed for roles in the robbery and killing of Pc Beshenivsky, three of whom were convicted of murder and were given life sentences.

Two men were convicted of manslaughter over her death , while a further man received eight years for robbery.

In January of this month, a seventh man was arrested in Pakistan in connection with the robbery which led to Pc Beshenivsky's murder.

Piran Ditta Khan appeared before a court in Pakistan on Monday last week in relation to an administrative matter regarding his extradition back to the UK.

A memorial to Pc Beshenivsky was unveiled in Bradford city centre in 2009.

At the time of the unveiling, then-Prime Minister Gordon Brown paid tribute to her "dedication, professionalism and courage".
