Tragedy as two cats die in Yorkshire house fire

Two cats tragically died in a house fire in Yorkshire, the fire service confirmed.

Crews from Richmond, Colburn & Bedale attended the blaze at a semi-detached home in Colburn, North Yorkshire on Saturday afternoon - shortly before 4pm.

On arrival, crews discovered heat and smoke damage to a bed, curtains and television in a bedroom.

There was smoke damage to the whole of the first floor, the fire service confirmed.

Two cats sadly died in the fire.

A man was checked by paramedics on the scene for smoke inhalation.

Crews used four breathing apparatus, twp hose reel jets, two main jets, thermal imaging cameras and scene lighting.

The cause of the fire is to be confirmed.
