'Violent and vicious' - Thug jailed after punching, kicking and strangling woman

A man hasbeen jailed after he violently assaulted a woman by punching, kicking and strangling her during a sustained attack.

Ryan Raynor assaulted the woman in Middlesbrough in May and was arrested by police after an investigation was launched.

The 22-year-old, of Thornaby, was charged with attempted Section 18 wounding, threats to kill, intentional strangulation and common assault, which he admitted at Teesside Magistrates Court.

On Monday (Sep 2), Raynor appeared at Teesside Crown Court where he was jailed for four-and-a-half years by a judge. The court also imposed an indefinite restraining order preventing him from contacting his victim.

Investigating officer James Smith, from Cleveland Police, said: “Raynor carried out a vicious and violent attack that day which will no doubt have left a lasting impact on the victim.

“Hopefully the victim can take some comfort in the fact that her attacker now faces time in prison to reflect on what he has done.

“Domestic violence is taken extremely seriously within Cleveland Police and I would urge anyone who wishes to report something to us to call 101 or contact Crimestoppers anonymously. We have specially trained officers who will support you throughout.”
