The officer, from the South Yorkshire Roads Policing Team was following a grey Ford Mondeo on his motorbike as it made its way along High Street, Goldthorpe in Barnsley.
Checks revealed the car had no insurance, so the officer followed the vehicle onto Barnsley Road, waiting for a safe opportunity to request the driver to stop.
The Mondeo entered the Aldi car park on Barnsley Road and continued to drive around, before the officer illuminated his blue lights and requested the driver to stop.
Operation Support Superintendent Paul McMurry said: "He failed to do so and continued to drive away.
"Moments later, the driver used his car to reverse towards the officer, who luckily was able to manoeuvre his bike between the safety bollards outside the store, avoiding injury.
“The Mondeo then drove away towards Hollygrove roundabout and fled the scene.
“Checks into the vehicle have since identified that the vehicle is cloned and could be stolen.
“This type of behaviour is not acceptable, our officers come to work to serve their communities, not to be driven at and injured.
Police are now appealing for information about the driver and links to the vehicle, following the incident on March 16, at around 10.17am.
The registration of the vehicle is BF58 OLJ.
Anyone with information is urged to call police on 101 quoting incident number 231 of March 16.
