York teenager dies after tragedy involving illegal drugs

A teenage boy has died after taking illegal drugs in a tragic incident in York, police have said.

The 15-year-old from New Earswick died in hospital after he was found by a member of the public in an alleyway in the Fulford area earlier this morning (Sunday).

Six people between the ages of 14 and 37 have been arrested on suspicion of drugs supply offences in connection with the teenager's death.

Officers were called by the ambulance service at around 7.10am after the boy was found at around 4am off Hospital Fields Road in the city.

North Yorkshire Police believe he had been with a group of people when he took illegal drugs, the details of which have not been confirmed.

Senior Investigating Officer, Detective Chief Inspector Jim Glass, said: “This is an extremely tragic incident which has resulted in a teenage boy losing his life.

“A team of specially trained officers are supporting the family at this time and I ask that their privacy is respected.

“We will do everything we can to find out how the drugs ended up in the hands of these teenagers. However we also need your help.

“If anyone knows someone who is dealing drugs, or is concerned about a person who is taking drugs, please come and speak to the police. We are here to help and to keep you safe and any information you can give us might just save a life.”

Anyone who saw the group of teenagers in the early hours or who has information about what happened has been urged to contact North Yorkshire Police.
