Yorkshire man among 13 charged over ‘modern slavery’

THIRTEEN people including one from West Yorkshire have been charged after a police operation against modern slavery.

The ten men and three women aged from 22 to 54 are from Lincolnshire and West Yorkshire and will appear in court next month.

Lincolnshire Police said John Rooney, 29, Patrick Rooney, 29, Martin Rooney, 22, Bridget Rooney, 54, and Martin Rooney, 53, all of Sheffield Road, Drinsey Nook, Lincolnshire, have all been charged with conspiracy to hold another person in slavery or servitude.

Also charged are Peter Doran, 31, Gerry Rooney, 40, Larry Rooney, 48, and John Joseph Rooney, 26, all of Washingborough Road, Lincoln, and John Rooney, 51, of Chantry Craft, Kinsley, near Hemsworth, West Yorkshire.

Nora Rooney, 29, of Sheffield Road, Drinsey Nook, has been charged with cheating the public revenue, as well as Eileen Rooney, 30, of the same address.

Danny Rooney, 49, of Washingborough Road, Lincoln, has been charged with fraud by false representation and possession of criminal property.

They are due to appear at Lincoln Magistrates’ Court on October 28.
