Witnesses at Lendal Bridge in the city centre reportedly saw the woman holding a stack of A4 papers with bright-coloured hair enter the river at around midday on Friday, October 30.

Underwater diving teams have been scouring the river since then to no avail, while North Yorkshire Police still do not know her identity.

The force said this morning (Wednesday) that searches are still ongoing.

The woman is described as white, aged in her early 20s, with purple or red hair.

She was wearing a black coat with a buckle across the middle, black skinny jeans, black boots with red or purple socks pulled over the top of the ankle boots.

Now desperately worried for the woman, police have re-issued a fresh appeal for any drivers who may have been on Lendal Bridge at between 11.50am and 12.05pm on that day.

Detectives are particularly interested from anyone who may have captured dashcam footage of the woman's face.
