Critically injured woman found near Whitby steps

A woman who was found with a head injury in Whitby is fighting for her life.
Police remain at the scene of an incident in Whitby where a woman was found this morning with serious head injuries. The bottom of the famous 199 steps leading to Whitby Abbey and St Mary's Church are currently cordoned off. The woman was airlifted to James Cook Hospital in Middlesbrough with life-threatening injuries. The cause of the injuries is currently unknown

Police were alerted at 6.45am today after the 45-year-old woman was found on Henrietta Street near the 199 steps.

She was airlifted to James Cook Hospital in Middlesbrough, where her injuries were described as “life-threatening.”

A North Yorkshire Police spokesman said: “The woman’s injuries are being treated as unexplained at this time and officers are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.

“The area around the 199 steps has been cordoned off and officers would like to thank the public for their patience while they complete their enquiries at the scene.”
