Diabetics put on alert over meter
Diabetes patients have been warned to check blood glucose meters after a potentially deadly flaw was found in some devices.
The FreeStyle InsuLinx, used by 40,000 UK patients, could give an incorrect low result when blood glucose levels are extremely high.
The Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) has issued an alert concerning the product. It said in the “unlikely event” of an extremely high blood glucose level of 56.8 mmol/L or higher, the meter could give a falsely low reading.
