Firefighters have resuscitated a dog they rescued from a house fire in South Yorkshire.

Three crews from South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service were called to the incident in Red Kite Avenue, in Wath-upon-Dearne, Rotherham, on Wednesday at 7.40pm.

No-one was home other than a semi-conscious border terrier when firefighters arrived at the blaze, which started in the kitchen of the address due to a hob being left on accidentally.

Officers rescued and revived the pet by giving it oxygen. The owners returned and the dog was taken to the vet for a check-up but is thought to be doing well.

A South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “The crews did a fantastic job in rescuing the dog and administering oxygen which thankfully resuscitated the dog.”

Crews from Rotherham and Cudworth attended the fire and used hose reels to extinguish the flames before leaving the scene at around 10pm.
