Drive launched on respiratory illness

HEALTH officials are hoping for a repeat of a successful campaign earlier this year which unearthed 60 new cases of respiratory disease.

NHS Hull is raising awareness of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) in a campaign with the British Lung Foundation.

Earlier this year 800 people were tested for lung function over four days, with a quarter referred to their doctor for extra testing. Of those 60 were diagnosed with COPD and are now being treated.

Symptoms of the disease include breathlessness and a persistent cough or wheezing, but the condition is treatable if caught early.
