Driver, 76, hurt in head-on crash with HGV

A PENSIONER was airlifted to hospital after the car he was driving collided with a heavy goods vehicle in Rotherham.

The 76-year-old man was driving a silver Ford Focus along the A57 Worksop Road when the crash happened at 4.10pm on Thursday.

A South Yorkshire Police spokesman said: “It is believed that the Focus, on driving round a sharp bend, crossed into the opposite lane. A red and white DAF XF105 HGV was reported to be travelling in the opposite direction.

“As the HGV approached the bend, it is believed that the Focus and HGV came into collision.

“The 76-year-old man was airlifted to Northern General Hospital, suffering from chest pains.”

Witnesses to the crash are being urged to call South Yorkshire Police on 101.
