Drivers told to expect further delays in city

DISGRUNTLED drivers faced another day of crawling traffic in Leeds city centre yesterday as roadworks continued to cause delays that could last for the rest of the week.

The tailbacks are the result of daytime work to install a bus lane along Kirkstall Road co-inciding with gas pipeline repairs at nearby Armley Gyratory.

A spokeswoman for Leeds City Council apologised for the inconvenience caused by both sets of roadworks.

She said: "It was already planned for the A65 bus corridor works to take place during the day in the quieter half-term week.

"Disruption will probably continue for the rest of the week and we're asking motorists to take this into account when planning their journeys."

A spokeswoman for Northern Gas Networks said last night: "We are very sorry about the impact on traffic that our works and those of Leeds City Council are having in the Armley Gyratory area."

Other roadworks are also taking place in the city, including barrier works being carried out on the M621 near Elland Road.
