Dropping litter costs offenders £6,000

Doncaster Council brought a total of 22 prosecutions to the town’s magistrates’ court last month and they were together ordered to pay out a total of £5,942.

The authority’s director of regeneration and environment, Peter Dale, said: “Doncaster is a wonderful borough and the council takes strong action against people who seek to spoil it.

“Taking someone to court for an unpaid fixed penalty notice is always a last resort, but it is important that we hold those who drop litter to account.

“This is not a council money- making exercise. The small amounts we receive from prosecutions in no way cover the millions we spend each year dealing with environmental crime.”

Those taken to court include Aaron Allen of West End Avenue, Bentley, who was fined £350 plus £178 costs for leaving litter at St Sepulchre Gate last September.

Brian Farmery of Todmorden Close in Denaby Main was convicted of leaving litter on Church Road, Denaby, last May and at Trafford Way in Doncaster last September. He was fined £175 for each offence and ordered to pay £185 costs.

Lyndsey Harvey of Conyers Road, Bentley, and Pawl Luszczyk of Vulcan Mews, Auckley, were each fined £175 plus costs of £178 for leaving litter in St Sepulchre Gate last year.

A fine of £175 plus court costs of £178 were also handed out to:Donna Huggins of South Street, Highfields; Brooke Laverick of Walstow Crescent, Armthorpe; Craig Marsden of Barker Street, Mexborough; Sharon McMahon of Howbeck Drive, Edlington; Emma Rodgers of Corona Drive, Thorne; Heather Smith of Crawshaw Road, Hexthorpe; Gemma Tulley of Beech Street in South Elmsall, Pontefract; and Luke Wilson of Skellow Road, Skellow, Doncaster.
