Eight arrested after stabbing near Bramall Lane

EIGHT people were arrested and one man is seriously ill in hospital after he was stabbed in an attack on a Sheffield street last night.

The man was one of three injured in the incident on John Street, Sharrow, near Sheffield United’s football ground last night.

Police said trouble started in premises above Euro Cafe and spilled out onto the street at around 10.40pm,

Eight arrests have been made in connection with the incident and part of John Street was cordoned off all night, and remains under police guard this morning while scenes of crimes experts examine the scene.

A police spokesman said: “Three men were injured, one seriously, following the incident that happened just after 10.40pm yesterday.

“Local police were on the scene within minutes to deal with the disturbance that is believed to have started inside premises above Euro Cafe on John Street and then spilled out into the street.

“The three injured men were all taken to the Northern General Hospital but two were released a short time later having suffered minor injuries.

“The third man remains in hospital having sustained serious stab injuries in the disturbance.

“Enquiries continue at the scene and police expect the road to re-open within the next two hours.”
