The fire service dealt with the fire in Grenoside Woods, Sheffield on Friday evening (July 24).
It took seven engines seven hours to distinguish the fire.
In a social media post, the fire service slammed those who had used a disposable BBQ within the woods.
"The fire was extremely deep seated and difficult for our firefighters to tackle”, they said.
"The cause?
“A disposable BBQ.
“Barbecues are banned in most parts of open countryside.
“The risk of fire is exceptionally high right now.
“Just take a sandwich instead.”
