Artists inspired by region’s countryside to give masterclass insights into work

SOME of the region’s leading artists will be running masterclasses at the Great Yorkshire Show to give an insight into their skills.

Designed to promote and highlight the artistic talent in Yorkshire, the events will be running throughout the three days of the show. Many of the artists draw inspiration from the countryside, adding extra relevancy to the work.

Les Packham, of Wakefield, and Robert Brindley, from near Whitby, will be working with watercolours while David Allen, from Harrogate, will be showing off a range of skills in pastels.

Meanwhile, Bruce Malcahy, of Eightlands, near Dewsbury, will demonstrate gouache techniques, while Richard Holdroyd, who is new to the event, will be working with oil pastels.

Another artist taking part in the masterclasses, Richard Keeton of Langdale End, Scarborough, will show how to dry point etch.

The art show itself features a wide range of work, including ceramics, stained glass, stainless steel, stone and bronze sculptures together with paintings in other mediums. All of the exhibits will be on sale and artists will be on hand to discuss both their work and commissions.

New to the event this year will be Joel Walker, from Leicestershire, who was famously commissioned by the Friends of Settle to Carlisle Railway to produce a bronze statue of Ruswarp which is now on display at Garsdale Station.

Also working will be Jill Ford, of York, who works in ceramics and painter of Rayford Holdroyd of Alne, York. All events take place at the Art Pavilion.
