Becca helps owner round up the world title

FOR those who missed the live event, near Penrith last weekend, the More4 channel will broadcast highlights of the World Sheep Dog Trials from 8.10 pm tonight.

Picture shows the overall winner, Irishman James McGee from Ballybofey in County Donegal, who competed with eight-year-old dog Becca, “probably the best dog I have ever owned”.

Ireland also won the team championship.

Runner-up in the individuals competition, after leading the field for most of the last day, last Sunday, was Serge van der Zweep and his four-year-old dog Eve, from the Netherlands, who just missed out on what would have been a first-ever success for a competitor from outside the British Isles.

Tom Lawrenson from Brindle, Lancashire, was the top English competitor, with dog Clyde.

Second place behind Ireland in the team awards went to Norway.
