Classes aim to help you master your chosen art

Introduced for the first time last year, the masterclasses proved so popular that they have been extended for 2012, with three different artists booked to appear on each of the three days.

The Art Show, organized by Wakefield-based artist Les Packham and his wife Judy, will promote the talent and work of 15 Yorkshire artists, and include ceramics, stained glass, stainless steel, stone and bronze sculptures together with paintings in various mediums.

Bill Cowling, Honorary Show Director, said: “Our county has inspired many artists to create and express themselves in different mediums. At this year’s Great Yorkshire Show you will be able to see some favourite, as well as new artists, as they demonstrate how they create their pieces.”

New to the show is sporting and equestrian artist Ruth Buchanan, from Wetherby, West Yorkshire, who will also be running one of the daily masterclasses.

Eric Moss, a member of the Northern Potters Association, is also new to the show this year. Based in Harrogate, he will be demonstrating his skills during a masterclass on the first day, Tuesday 10 July.

Other new artists include Scottish-born wildlife artist John Halbert.

Now based near Ripon, North Yorkshire, John’s beautiful paintings of British birds are sure to inspire visitors and he will be unveiling two new pictures A Quiet Corner of the Field ‘ featuring a grey partridge and the second entitled Woodcock and Bluebells.

All the exhibits on show are for sale.
