The Environment Agency has shared photos of the dry bed of the River Swale at Muker in the Yorkshire Dales and asked members of the public to report concerns about river levels to their monitoring team.

"It has been a very dry couple of months. This is the River Swale at Muker last week. Levels are low across Yorkshire. We continue to monitor and regulate. Help keep us informed, send pics of low rivers to [email protected]."

Area director Oliver Harmar shared a shocking image of Lindley Wood Reservoir in the Washburn Valley, near Otley, which showed the extent of the falling water levels.

Yorkshire Water, who own the reservoir, have reassured customers that drought risk remains low despite the dry spring and that most of their reservoirs are three-quarters full, with a sophisticated grid network enabling the swift transfer of water if there are shortages in certain areas.
