“I have been practising my high kicks.”

“We have since gone on to have a film and a stage production, and now we have the musical.”

In total the Calendar Girls, all from North Yorkshire, raised more than £4m for Lukeimia research in memory of Angela’s husband John who died of the disease.

Their story is set to be immortalised once again in the form of the musical, with music for the production being composed by Take That’s Gary Barlow.

“It is truly amazing how it has gone from a calendar to a musical. We open is November at the Grand Theatre in Leeds. From there we go to The Lowery in Manchester and from there hopefully the West End and even, our dream, is to be on Broadway.

“So fingers crossed.”

Mr Verity said: “We work with a lot of people at Welcome to Yorkshire, but our favourites by far are the Calendar Girls, they are so special and generous with their time.”
