High-flyer brought down by ‘poison’

In 1989, a reintroduction programme began in England and Scotland.

The Yorkshire Red Kite Project was one of a series of phased releases and began on the Harewood Estate.

By 2011, there were 74 breeding pairs across Yorkshire which successfully reared 119 young between them.

Red Kites are protected by law and attitudes towards them are changing. Many are thriving on country estates where game shooting takes place.
