Livestock winners at Kilnsey Show revealed

The 116th Kilnsey Show near Skipton went down a treat in the sunshine on Tuesday and once again, some fine beasts triumphed in the ever-competitive livestock classes.

Animals were judged to a backdrop of uplifting tunes played by the Lofthouse Middlesmoor Silver Band and a programme of entertainment in the main ring.

Winners of the best animal in each breed section of the sheep classes were: Dalesbred - Richard Close, Swaledale - Robert Tennant, Teeswater - D & GC Newbould, Masham - M & B Allen, Blue-faced Leicester - JH Critchlow, Mule - E Fairburn & Sons, Suffolk - M & N Gornall, Texel - Robert Newby, Beltex - Ivanhoe Livestock, Jacob - JT & PA Black, Gritstone - S & P Scrivin, Lonk - Brian Crawshaw, Zwarbles - Raymond Heigh and Charollais - Charles Marwood.

The Supreme Sheep title was taken by E Fairburn & Sons, with Charles Marwood named as Reserve.

Paul Fairburn, of Marriforth Farm, which is home to 2,500 ewes, collected the Supreme Sheep trophy for his homebred mule.

He said: “This is the show to go for mules so it means a lot to win.”

Highlights in the cattle classes included a win for the Booth family as Supreme Dairy Champion, while the Supreme Commercial Beef Champion and the Overall Beef Champion was JA Stoney & Son.

Trevor Stoney, who runs a mixed beef and sheep operation with his father Joe and daughter Heather at Whitewood Farm, Pateley Bridge, said: “To win a show like this with the standard of cattle here today is tremendous.”

Winners of the best animal in each breed section of the cattle classes were: Limousin - John Varley, Highland - R & W Phillip, British Blue - John Stephenson and Other Pure Breed - K & AC Jackson & Son.
