New chairman sets out his goals


A fourth generation farmer, Mr Shaw – who farms at Elvington, near York – grew up on a mixed farm producing everything from potatoes and cereals to beef and poultry.
For the last 42 years, however, he has specialised in dairy production and today farms 400 acres in partnership with his wife, Anne.

Hide AdHe was elected as York East County Chairman in December but has now formally taken on the role for a two-year term, succeeding Helmsley farmer Jonathan Fairburn.
He says his number one aim is to provide a voice for local members. “It is an honour to represent the county and I now have a chance to give something back to the farming community I have been part of for so many years,” he said. “I believe we can help make a difference.”
