New principal to lead land-based education

Dr Tim Whitaker is the former head of higher education at Duchy College in Cornwall and has been appointed as principal with responsibility for the College’s Yorkshire sites.

Dr Whitaker has more than two decades’ experience in the development and delivery of land-based education, particularly in higher and post-graduate education at senior management level, and has produced more than 50 publications covering agriculture, equine and sport performance analysis.

“I am very much enjoying my role at Askham Bryan College, particularly as the campus continues to develop, the next stage being the opening of our new animal management centre and wildlife park,” Dr Whitaker said.

His appointment follows a major expansion of the College which saw it add centres at Newton Rigg in Cumbria, Newcastle, Hexham, Teesside, Bradford, Scarborough and Wakefield.

Under the re-organisation, executive principal Liz Philip is also the College’s chief executive, and she said: “It is important that we keep moving forward to ensure our students leave us with the best qualifications possible, and more importantly, as work-ready individuals who will be the leaders, opinion formers and workforce of tomorrow.”
