Mr Crisp, of Nelson House, Calton, a former CCM Farmer of the Year and regular past dairy champion and prize-winner, secured his latest title with the first prize newly calven Holstein Friesian heifer, by the Genus sire Garrison.

At 12 days calved and giving six gallons, she sold for a show-topping £2,300 to Burnley’s AP Townsend.

The reserve champion was Mr Crisp’s second prize heifer, by the same sire and giving five gallons after calving a week before the show. She fell for £1,950 to Ian Wellock of Eshton.

The third prize newly calven heifer from the Lawson family, who run the Newbirks pedigree Holstein herd at Mill Farm in Arthington, sold for £2,150 to Stephen Jeanes, of Glusburn.

The Lawsons, who have sent out many Craven Dairy Auction champions of late, were prominent once again when presenting the first prize newly calven cow, a second calver by a Picston Shottle son. Giving 38 litres, she sold for £2,050 to Mark Goodall, of Tong, Bradford. The family also sold a further two newly calven cows for £2,000 to Paul Bolland.

The second and third prize newly calven cows both came from MD Parkinson, of Barden, and Richard Verity, of Grewelthorpe, swept up the prizes in the in-calf heifer show class.
