Show director named Deputy Lieutenant.

There was a special honour today for Great Yorkshire Show director Bill Cowling who has been appointed Deputy Lieutenant of North Yorkshire.

Mr Cowling, who is currently welcoming HRH The Princess Royal onto the showground, has been appointed to the role by Lord-Lieutenant Lord Crathorne.

Lord Crathorne said that Mr Cowling’s long experience as a highly successful show director made him ideally suited to the role.

“I know Bill will do this admirably and be a great addition to the team,” he said.

Mr Cowling told The Yorkshire Post: “I am absolutely thrilled and delighted.

“This is a huge honour and as a North Yorkshire farmers I feel I represent not only the show but our country’s farming and rural interests.”

It is a particularly special day for the Cowling family, with his Bill’s six-year-old granddaughter Francesca presenting a white rose to the Princess Royal later today.
