Show is the prime location for Kirstie

NIDDERDALE Show is used to celebrity guests, followed by TV cameras, and is looking forward to another one this year, to add interest for the general public.

Janet Street-Porter is a local hobby farmer who has turned her experiences as an exhibitor at the show into television in the past. And this year Kirstie Allsop will be filming at the show, at Pateley Bridge on Monday.

The Location Location star was at the Great Yorkshire Show, taking part in a needlework competition, and will be at the Nidderdale on the same mission – testing her skills as an anonymised entrant in one or more of the craft and produce classes, to supply material for an upcoming series called Kirstie’s Handmade Britain, which will start on Channel 4 in October.

The official guest of honour at Nidderdale Show is Dorothy Fairburn, who runs the Yorkshire office of the CLA (the rebranded Country Land & Business Association).

But even the show website is top-billing Kirstie, who has agreed to open the show cricket match and try out the new all-terrain vehicle course in the main ring – where winners from the past 10 years will be competing to find a champion of champions.

She is also expected to have a go in the sheepdog trials.

Today is show day at Stokesley, an event which regularly draws more than 20,000 people from the Middlesbrough to North York Moors area, for the show and the fair which takes over the town for the day.

The Nidderdale, on Monday, is the last of the traditional Yorkshire shows but the revived Masham Sheep Fair, September 24-25, is still to come and Countryside Live, the ‘little brother’ of the Great Yorkshire Show, will wind up the season at Harrogate in October.
