Slow progress on decision welcomed

A DECISION on a massive wind farm near Malton has been delayed till May 27.

Communities Secretary Eric Pickles has put the decision back on plans by RWE nPower to build 10 126-metre high turbines on land at West Heslerton, so the developers and Ryedale district council can comment on the latest planning guidance.

Campaigner Paul Stephens, of Moor Farm, West Heslerton, said: “The longer it goes on the better.

“Both public and political opinion are turning against them as they get to be more and more of them and it is costing the Treasury more and more. People say we have to harness what is free. My response to that is how come the elctricity from them costs twice as much as conventional means?”
