The pie’s the limit

A SELBY butcher has won a prestigious national title for the quality of its pies.

JA Mounfield & Son was honoured for its 1lb traditional pork pie at the national final of the BPEX Butcher Regional Roadshow and Product Evaluation Events 2010/2011.

One member of the judging panel was so impressed he remarked that the product was “an outstanding pie, like no other I’ve tasted”.

The butcher was one of seven regional champions invited to re-submit their products for final evaluation to crown an overall winner.

The presentation was made at Butchers’ Hall in London, where Mounfields accepted an original watercolour painting of a Gloucester Old Spot pig. Their spot this year was secured after being crowned regional champion for the North East.
