I WOULD like to respond to the misinformation on fracking in the letter by Lorraine Allanson (The Yorkshire Post, February 18).

The truth about significant risk worthy of evidence-based debate, not hyperbolic dissent, is shown in the emerging scientific long-term research. The primary point about tourism and large-scale shale exploration in Yorkshire is explored in the NYCC waste and mineral report; the conflict is clearly identified.

As is quite apparent, the projected number of pads in Yorkshire is hundreds, with associated lorry movements in the tens of thousands per annum.

The report identifies a concern with the lack of “cumulative traffic assessment”, and the impact on traffic, pollution and – most pertinently – tourism.

LORRAINE Allanson wants us to believe that “the opposition to shale gas is not backed by science”!

She further castigates bullying by protesters, but overlooks the tactics of the immensely powerful fossil fuel industry supported by a compliant Government unable to differentiate between ethical and commercial interests.
