Ex-police officer spared jail over cocaine offer

A FORMER police officer who “betrayed the public’s trust” after she offered to supply cocaine has avoided a jail term.

Pc Sarah Greaves was handed a suspended prison sentence at Sheffield Crown Court following an earlier hearing where she admitted a charge of making an offer to supply the class A drug.

The 29-year-old, from Doncaster, resigned from South Yorkshire Police in November after being suspended from duty in June. She pleaded guilty at Derby Crown Court in November to a charge of being concerned in the offer to supply class A drugs, namely cocaine, between August 15, 2012, and February 6 last year.

After sentencing, Deputy Chief Constable Andy Holt said: “Greaves was a former officer who betrayed the trust of the public and her hard-working colleagues. Her actions are totally at odds with the values of South Yorkshire Police – she is now a criminal.”

The court heard the charges were brought following a “lengthy and very complex investigation” by South Yorkshire Police into drug-dealing in the county. Greaves appeared for sentence at Sheffield Crown Court alongside her co-accused, 31-year-old Adam Dickinson.

Greaves was given a 12-month sentence, suspended for two years, and 200 hours of unpaid community service.

Dickinson, 31, of Worksop, Nottinghamshire, was jailed for 10 months. He pleaded guilty at the earlier hearing to charges of being concerned in the offer to supply class A drugs.
