Extra security put on at Hull Jail after 'technical difficulties' affect gate

Extra security has been put on at Hull jail after “technical difficulties” affected the operation of an external vehicle gate.
The Ministry of Justice said there was no risk to the public after reports that the gate had stopped working on Wednesday morning.
HMP Hull is a Category B men's prison on Hedon Road, holding roughly 1,000 to 1,100 men.
It is a large, inner-city reception prison serving local courts. It also holds a significant number of prisoners convicted of or charged with sexual offences.
A Prison Service spokesperson said: “Technical difficulties are affecting the operation of an external vehicle gate at HMP Hull.
"Additional security measures have been put in place while the issue is resolved.”
The prison was built between 1865 and 1869, and has two wings from that era. Five new wings and a gym were added in the early part of the 21st century.
