Eyesore hotel could finally get revamp

A CRUMBLING eyesore looks set to be refurbished into social housing after a decade standing empty.

The New York Hotel is in a key position on Anlaby Road, opposite Hull’s Paragon Station.

Hull Council’s Cabinet will consider backing Goodwin Development Trust’s plans to acquire and redevelop the building, for commercial and social housing, at a meeting next week. The council would invest £500,000 as part of a total of £2m, creating 16 social housing units and commercial space.

A report says bringing the building back into use “will contribute toward wider regeneration and renewal of the city centre, increasing civic pride and mitigating anti-social behaviour.”

The hotel is privately-owned and currently being advertised for sale for £500,000. Planners had served a notice on the owner to improve its external appearance, but no work has been done.
