Fire in Bradford: Scores of firefighters called to fire in Yorkshire as residents told to avoid area

Scores of firefighters have been called to the scene of a fire in Yorkshire.

West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service said crews from across the region have been sent to the scene. A total of 10 fire engines are currently in attendance at the property on City Road in Bradford.

The service asked people to avoid the area if possible.

An update at 11.50am said the incident had been scaled down to four fire engines.

It said: “Firefighters are still at the scene of a fire at Narang Wholesalers Ltd on City Road in Bradford. We were called at just before 10am this morning to the fire, which had started in the basement of the building on the lower floor.

"Two engines attended from Bradford as well as engines from Shipley, Odsal, Stanningley, Cleckheaton, Mirfield and Ilkley, Featherstone, Morley, Skelmanthorpe and Illingworth. A hose laying unit from Mirfield also attended.

"One male casualty of around 70-years-old had severe smoke inhalation and is being treated by ambulance staff. The fire was reduced to four pumps at 11.43am and firefighters are still on site damping down and ensuring safety.”
