Five women held over £10,000 Bradford shoplifting ring

POLICE investigating a suspected organised shoplifting ring in Bradford have arrested five women and seized clothing and accessories believed to be worth more than £10,000.

Officers conducted a series of warrants at addresses across the city yesterday, taking clothing and accessories believed to have been stolen from retailers across West Yorkshire.

Police executed the warrants in the Holme Wood and Fagley areas after they received information about suspected stolen clothing and accessories being sold on online auction sites.

The women, aged 22, 27, 34, 38 and 55, who were arrested for various theft and handling offences, were all bailed pending further enquiries.

A 20-year-old man was also arrested on suspicion of possession of a Class A drug after some bags of white powder were recovered from one of the addresses.

He was also bailed pending further enquiries.

Inspector Andy Gallant, who leads the Bradford City Area Neighbourhood Team, said: “Retail crime will not be tolerated in Bradford District and police will use all powers necessary to tackle those who prey on our shops and businesses.”
